HIRING A SENIOR LOW VOLTAGE DESIGNER IN HOUSTON

ACCOUNTABILITY
Perform design duties on all projects while working with other designers and BIM design staff to deliver a quality product on schedule. Interacts with other designers and clients as authorized by Project Manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Lead the design and development of low voltage systems, including AV, IT, and Security, for both new construction and renovation projects
  • Prepare detailed drawings, specifications, and system schematics for low voltage systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards and client requirements
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and other stakeholders on low voltage system design matters
  • Attend client meetings, conduct site visits, and present design proposals and solutions
  • Collaborate closely with clients to understand their needs and ensure that designs meet their requirements and expectations
  • Work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and project managers to integrate low voltage systems seamlessly into overall project designs
  • Ensure that all low voltage system designs are properly coordinated with other building systems (electrical, mechanical, etc.) to avoid conflicts and ensure optimal system performance
  • Monitor project progress, ensuring that designs are implemented as planned and within project timelines
  • Ensure all designs meet relevant codes, regulations, and best practices in the AV, IT, and Security domains
  • Review and verify installation plans and contractor submittals to ensure they meet design specifications
  • Mentor junior designers and provide training on best practices, emerging technologies, and industry standards in an established team-oriented environment
  • Perform additional assignments as requested/needed

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in low voltage system design with a focus on AV, IT, and Security within the AEC industry, field installation experience is a plus
  • Experience working directly with clients to define needs and develop tailored solutions
  • Familiarity with industry standards, codes, and regulations for AV, IT, and Security design (e.g., NEC, TIA/EIA, ANSI, BICSI, etc.)
  • Proficient knowledge of Revit and AutoCAD application software and MS Office
  • In-depth knowledge of AV, IT, and Security system design, including equipment selection, cabling infrastructure, and integration with building management systems
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly and effectively to clients, stakeholders, and team members
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high-quality results on time and within budget
  • Industry certifications such as BICSI RCDD (Registered Communications Distribution Designer), CTS (Certified Technology Specialist), or similar credentials
