Summary
This position is located in the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection, Business and Professional Licensing Administration (BPLA), Business Licensing Division. The incumbent is responsible for reviewing and approving applications; interacting one-on-one with professionals via telephone calls, electronically and/or face-to-face, providing administrative support for the Business Licensing Division, communicating with professionals, regulatory and business organizations, and assisting applicants with the process.
Duties And Responsibilities
The Business License Specialist is responsible for providing information, assisting, and servicing clients that contact the office, answering inquiries in person, by telephone, or in electronic or paper correspondence. Responds to routine inquiries regarding policies and procedures. The incumbent assists the supervisor in improving effectiveness in meeting schedules, deadlines, priorities and production goals. Participates in the continuing review of procedures, and devises means of Improving, consolidating and/or standardizing administrative forms and procedures. The incumbent provides immediate and continuing support by briefing the supervisor on a variety of confidential matters pertaining to administrative operations, recommending courses of action, and keeping him/her informed of consumer activities occurring in the absence of the supervisor from the office for extended periods.
Qualifications And Education
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position which has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position to include the program policies, procedures and controls related there the position, and the responsibilities of key officials. To be creditable, the incumbent must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

The work is primarily performed in routine office setting. Some site visits may be required.

Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is covered under a collective bargaining unit represented by AFSCME LOCAL 2743 and you may be required to pay an agency service fee through direct payroll deduction.
Position Designation: This position is designated as Security Sensitive. The incumbents of this position will be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC personnel regulations, Suitability.
