Job Summary
This position is located in the District of Columbia Board of Elections (DCBOE), Office of the Executive Director, Voter Services Division, whose mission is to enfranchise eligible residents, conduct elections, and assure the integrity of the electoral process as mandated by both federal and local laws. BOE is expanding its mission to increase civic participation and provide citizens of the District of Columbia with vital information and data to enhance the voter experience.
The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in responding to written, telephonic, or in-person inquiries regarding voter registration, candidate qualification, and other election issues. The position will also assist with data entry, maintain documents and data for the voter registry program, and respond to qualification, verification, selection processing, and ballot tabulation.
Duties And Responsibilities
The incumbent is responsible for assisting with data entry, maintaining documents and data for the voter registry program, and responding to customer questions regarding qualifications, verifications, election processing, and ballot tabulations. As requested, distribute voter lists, indices, reports, statistics, and other voter and election material. Sorts and distributes mail; assists in maintaining and managing an effective filing system of voter registrations, absentee voter lists, and voter history data. Assists with pre- and post-election activities such as testing voting equipment, canvassing, ballot tabulation, and audits, recounts, and reviews of write-in votes.
Sorts and distributes mail and assists in maintaining and managing an effective filing system of voter registrations, absentee voter lists, and voter history data. Participates in community and voter outreach program activities outside the office and regular working hours, such as attending Advisory Neighborhood Commission, school, naturalization, and civic association meetings and voter registration drives. Assists in providing, receiving, reviewing, updating, and processing voter registrations, absentee ballots, candidate filings, nomination petitions, and ballot measures; issues voter identification cards. Assists in preparing voter and candidate guides and materials.
Education/Experience
An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Incumbent must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the grade 06 level in the District of Columbia government service or its non-District equivalent which demonstrates the ability to perform the position's duties. Specialized experience is the experience which is directly related to the position and has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the position, including successfully, but not limited to, voter registration, special ballots, responding to customers written, telephonic or in-person inquiries, requests and complaints regarding processes, assisting internal and external customers with registrations and data entry.

The work is typically performed in an office setting. The incumbent will be required to perform some work outdoors in the community, at the agency’s warehouse, polling places, and other offices as required within the District of Columbia. The position will sometimes require some long periods of sitting and standing, walking, bending, lifting, and carrying items up to 50 pounds. This position requires working irregular hours, weekends, holidays, and evenings during election cycles. Promotion potential - None.
