JOB SUMMARY
This position is located in the Department of Corrections (DOC) that mirrors, a city / county type jail system which is responsible for the care and custody of pretrial detainees and sentenced misdemeanants. Department of Corrections provides public safety by ensuring the safe, secure, and humane confinement of pretrial detainees and sentenced misdemeanants and in part as a federal prison, supervising felons sentenced to terms of less than 1 year, probation, supervised release and parole violators awaiting hearings, writs, US witnesses, and other inmates. Serves as an Operation Research Analyst with the Office of Strategic Planning and Analysis (SPA) that is designed to support goals and activities associated with the performance-based management system including operational and mandatory reporting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides technical assistance to line managers in constructing metrics and associated data capturing and reporting mechanisms for measuring operational performance and supporting day to day monitoring of business processes; and provides technical assistance in analysis of performance data and guidance related to assessment of appropriate targets. Prepares briefings for a variety of consumers including DOC managers, Executive Branch officials and Council members on correctional performances trends; and develops official DOC operational and performance reports for internal / or external distribution subject to review and approval by Strategic Planning and Analysis Manager. Provides technical assistance to managers on the design data collection instruments and surveys; and conducts operations and analysis studies upon request; and applies operations research tools methodologies to improve organizational efficiency and effectiveness; and responds to special data requests authorized by the Director.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION
Degree in operations research; or at least 24 semester hours in a combination of operations research, mathematics probabilities, statistics mathematical logic, science, or subject matter courses requiring substantial competence in college level mathematics or statistics. At least 3 of the 24 semester hours must have been in calculus.
In addition, this position requires Specialized Experience which equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

Working Conditions / Environment
Work is relatively sedentary, however, a moderate amount of walking, standing, stooping and carrying manuals, etc., and considerable amount of time is spent working at a computer. Work is normally performed in an office setting.
