Job Summary
This position is located in the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED). The overall mission of DMPED is to encourage growth and investment across the District, providing and preserving affordable housing, attracting high quality retail to our neighborhoods and Center City, and revitalizing our waterfronts. We bring federal, nonprofit, and private partners together to expand the District’s tax bases, attract, and retain businesses of all sizes, bring good-paying jobs for residents, and strengthen business climate.
This position is responsible for, and has authority for directing, coordinating, and focusing on planning performance metrics while adjusting to the market and external environment under the broad supervision of the Deputy Mayor.
Duties And Responsibilities
This position serves as Senior Housing Advisor to the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development, and leads the development, implementation, and coordination of initiatives that advance the Mayor’s housing goals. I
ncumbent participates in strategic planning meetings to discuss program activities that impact the overall successful operation of the agency. Research public and private sector health care issues at the national, state, and local levels to ensure that the agency is informed of best practice standards, innovations, and trends in health care programs or insurance plans for persons who are uninsured or under insured. Develops policy collaborations with other District service delivery agencies to accomplish health system reforms intended to improve the delivery of services to vulnerable populations and, where possible, leverage the use of local dollars with federal matching funds. Analyzes and evaluates the performance measures set forth in the Performance Plan. Conducts fact finding research should DMPED not meet the performance measures and document said findings in a written follow-up report.
Provides alignment of strategic business planning and information technology planning to ensure that the Department’s infrastructure will support program planning and policy development needs. Performs independent research and analysis of the medical, demographic, legal, ethical, political, and financial components of issues and makes recommendations based on research findings. Advises and makes recommendations to the Deputy Mayor concerning new processes to improve the integration and performance of the publicly funded health care programs, including but not limited to DC Housing Alliance integration of the day-to-day operations into the Medicaid and SCHIP operations. Provides assistance on a broad range of requirements and issues inclusive of managing special legislative projects and ensuring timeliness of responses and imposed dates. Reviews critical legislative correspondence and special requests for information prior to submission to the Deputy Mayor.
Qualifications And Education
Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position and has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, the applicant must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is not in a collective bargaining unit.
