DC Waste & Recycling is seeking applicants for a full-time hourly Technician in Hillsboro, IL. The ideal candidate shall be a detail-oriented and skilled professional to maintain and repair our fleet of waste and recycling trucks, ensuring they operate safely and efficiently. This position has typical hours of Monday – Friday from 7:00 am – 5:00 pm (subject to change).
Job Responsibilities:
- Diagnose and repair emission systems and electrical harnesses.
- Utilize diagnostic tools and equipment to accurately identify and resolve mechanical faults.
- Maintain detailed records and report all maintenance and repair work, including parts used and time spent on each task.
- Collaborate with the operations team to prioritize repairs and ensure minimal disruption to daily routes.
- Provide support for emergency repairs outside of regular hours when necessary.
- Participate in ongoing training to stay current with new technologies and industry best practices (at company's expense).
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical issues to ensure timely and effective repairs.
- Conduct thorough vehicle inspections to identify and address potential problems before they become major issues.
- Maintain equipment such as service, engine, transmission, differential, driveline, brakes, suspension, hydraulic and pneumatic repairs.
- Keep work areas clean and organized, ensuring a safe and efficient workspace.
- Follow all company policies and procedures related to vehicle maintenance and safety.
- Provide support for emergency repairs outside of regular hours when necessary.
- Attend safety meetings.
Desired Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification preferred.
- Three (3) years of emission, electrical and diagnostic experience, preferably with commercial vehicles or heavy equipment.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
- Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the job, including lifting heavy parts and working in various weather conditions.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; CDL B preferred but not required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to safety protocols and regulations.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment DOT drug test.
- Possession of a valid DOT medical card.
