Role Description:

The Communications Intern will support the communications team with various tasks, including content creation, media relations, internal and external communications, and public relations initiatives. The intern will help ensure that messaging is consistent and supports DC Water’s goals.

 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

As a summer Intern, we will provide you with:  

  • A real-world experience on exciting projects  
  • Connections with recent college graduates and our company leaders   
  • Performance of assignments under the direct supervision of a department lead  
  • Performance of other work-related duties as needed  

 

Your essential functions include, but are not limited to:

  • Assist with content creation for internal and external communications.
  • Help develop and edit press releases, newsletters, blog posts, and social media content.
  • Support media relations efforts and maintain contact lists.
  • Assist with preparing presentations and communication materials for stakeholders.
  • Help monitor and track communication campaigns and initiatives.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Required Experience:
Experience in communications, public relations, or similar disciplines.
Minimum Education Requirements:
Must be currently enrolled fulltime in an undergraduate or graduate program  
Must have at least 30 credit hours complete  
Must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average 
Required Skills:
Ability to multi-task and manage various communication projects.
Strong organizational development skills and attention to detail.
Ability to collaborate effectively with teams.
Self-starter attitude and out-of-the-box thinking capabilities.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for building rapport and networking.

Physical Requirements: 
Ability to handle demanding tasks and work in various environments.
Flexibility to work during evenings or after-hours if needed.
Capability to lift materials or equipment when required.

 

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

Preferred Experience:
Experience in media relations, content writing, or communications campaigns.
Project management experience is a plus.
Preferred Education Requirements:
Preferred Majors: Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or related fields.
Preferred Skills:
Proficient in content creation, project management, and organizational development.
Strong teamwork and leadership abilities.
Creative thinking and ability to find new approaches to communication strategies.
