Lead Mechanical Engineer

The Senior Mechanical Engineer Lead is responsible for the detail engineering design of packaged equipment according to customer specifications, best engineering design practices and company standards. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer Lead is responsible for preparing, coordinating, and monitoring projects from their conception to their final completion, defining and implementing best Engineering practices, and supervising the activities of a team of Engineers. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer Lead is responsible for assembling a project team and assigning tasks and responsibilities. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer Lead collaborates with the Project Management team, Mechanical Design Engineer, Electrical/Instrumentation/Controls Engineer, Process Engineer, Document Control Coordinator, Procurement, Manufacturing, and vendors to ensure smooth project execution, adherence to customers requirement, on-time delivery, project profitability and quality control.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Designs and prepares P&IDs, process flow diagrams, equipment/components/instruments sizing calculations and selections, packaged equipment general arrangement, system controls, Bills of Materials in an ERP system, O&M manuals and all other engineering documents per the project requirements.
• Assembles a project team composed of a Mechanical Design Engineer, an Electrical/Controls Engineer, Process Engineer and Document Control Coordinator, and assigns responsibilities based on project scope and requirements.
• Supervises the activities and tasks of a team of Mechanical Engineers.
• Collaborates with the Project Manager at project kick-off to maintain the project scope, schedule, quality and profitability.
• Confirms compliance between customer purchase order, specifications, and proposal.
• Coordinates and monitors all engineering activities from project inception to project completion.
• Maintains all engineering deliverable schedules to satisfy customer requirements and meet forecasted project revenues.
• Controls budgeted engineering costs in accordance with planned project’s budgets and profitability.
• Organizes and conducts engineering design review meetings with the project execution and Manufacturing teams.
• Documents, rectifies, and controls any equipment manufacturing discrepancies through established company’s ECR/ECN/ECO processes.
• Organizes internal and vendors’ design documentation/data sheets submittals and works with the Document Control Coordinator to compile a cohesive submittal package suitable for customer review.
• Coordinates Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) with customers and internal Operation’s team in compliance with project requirements and De Nora’s quality and safety standards.
• Performs equipment quality checks in coordination with the QA team before shipment to customers.
• Provides technical support to Field Services team to perform equipment installation, startup, and commissioning.
• Provides technical support to the Proposal Engineering team to review customer’s bid specifications and provide engineering hours estimates.
• Defines and controls the implementation of engineering best practices as it relates to drawing preparation, quality checks and revision control of documents and project design review standards.
• Understands and adheres to all company health and safety procedures as they relate to essential job functions.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Strong knowledge of fundamental engineering design concepts, best practices, and procedures.

• Strong knowledge in designing engineered piping systems, fluid dynamics and critical integrated components such as tanks, pumps/motors, blowers, automatic valves, instrumentation (flow, level, temperature, pressure, etc.), and rotating equipment.

• Knowledge in the execution of projects in a manufacturing environment.

• Excellent organizational, time management, leadership, and decision-making skills

• Excellent interpersonal skills for collaborating with cross-functional teams

• Strong competency with Windows-based software

• Strong written and verbal communication skills

• Problem solving and analytical skills a must

• Strong with Microsoft Project

• Knowledge in SAP ERP system is a plus.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

BS degree in Mechanical Engineering and at least 10 years of experience in Project Engineering and Mechanical Engineering in a manufacturing environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience

EIT or PE a plus
