Qualifications for Public Safety Officer (Armed)
• Requires HS diploma or GED Equivalent.
• Requires working knowledge of computers and various software programs.
• Requires current non-restricted Driver’s License.
• After hire, must successfully complete required training.
• Eligible to obtain a Permit, issued by the State of Kentucky to carry a handgun.
• Requires the successful completion of the Firearms Proficiency Test with continuous requalification on a semi-annual basis.
• Must be able to deal effectively with patients and family members in a crisis and to deal with abusive people.
Responsibilities
• Performs periodic tours of all hospital buildings and grounds. Visually checks for safety and fire hazards.
• De-escalate tense, dynamic, and rapidly evolving situations
• Ensures individuals entering the facility are properly screened.
• Enforces hospital regulations and policies designed to prevent theft and unauthorized access.
• Conducts safety checks and tests as required by State and Federal laws for a hospital.
• Patrols parking areas periodically, leaving warning notices on automobiles in violation of parking regulations. Checks fire and emergency lanes to insure they are clear at all times.
• Supports the Deaconess Health Police Department objectives for creating a safe environment.
• Assists with patient restraint when necessary.
• Directs visitors and answers questions relative to location of services.
• Responds to fire emergency calls, assists police, fire, and emergency management teams
• Provides parking lot assistance to staff and guests.
• Supports hospital departmental policies, procedures and mission statements.
• Attends staff meetings and in-services.
• Successfully completes all required hospital training
