Job Overview :
Under the supervision of the RN, the Patient Care Technician (PCT) performs various care activities and related services necessary in caring for the personal needs, comfort and safety of a specific patient population (ANA Standards of Delegation, 2004). The employee must be able to successfully complete job specific orientation, competencies, and meet / exceed standards as identified in the criteria based performance appraisal. PCTs must demonstrate awareness of patients' rights in all aspects of patient care and report issues to the appropriate person. The PCT demonstrates leadership through coordination of unit equipment and activities. Communicates to the RN pertinent findings or observations noted while providing patient care and comfort. Assist professional staff with basic life support principles.
Unit Description :
The Telemetry-Stepdown unit is a 21-bed (15 Telemetry / 6 Stepdown) unit specializing in the care of the Telemetry and Stepdown patient. This unit is located on the third floor of the North Tower of Deaconess Henderson Hospital. This unit cares for complex medical surgical patients, cardiac patients, stroke patients, sepsis and other diagnoses including patients requiring closer monitoring. Our patient population offers a great variety of learning opportunities related to cardiac rhythms and EKG's, medication drips requiring titration, and NIH stroke scale. Teamwork is a priority on our busy unit as we strive to provide safe and high-quality care to our patients.
