POSITION OVERVIEW
The primary role of the Transportation Technology Manager is to lead the administration, deployment, maintenance, and improvement of technology specific to the transportation industry. This includes, but is not limited to, the following technologies that Dean currently utilizes throughout its fleet.
- Vehicle telematics, such as Zonar
- Parent-facing vehicle tracking applications, such as Here Comes The Bus
- Student-tracking applications, such as ZPass
- Driver safety technologies, such as Lytx
- On-board video surveillance systems, such as Pro-Vision, REI, AngelTrax, Seon, etc.
- On-board tablets, for providing driver directions, inspections, ELD compliance, etc.
- On-board WiFi for student passengers as well as motorcoach transportation
- On-board video systems, such as satellite TV, DVD, etc.
- Two-way communication systems such as land mobile radio and LTE-based solutions
In addition to the technology itself, the Transportation Technology manager will be responsible for overseeing and managing Dean’s internal support team that assists end users with troubleshooting parent-facing applications, as well interfacing directly with Dean technicians responsible for installation and maintenance of technology hardware throughout the fleet.
The Transportation Technology Manager will also be asked to assist with efforts related to the deployment of Electric Vehicles (EVs) in Dean’s fleet. Generally, this will require coordination and communication with internal and external subject matter experts regarding the following:
- General feasibility and geographic site analysis
- Assessment of power supply and infrastructure (current and future power needs)
- Identifying sources of funding and grant opportunities
- Evaluating and selecting vehicle and charging specifications
- Determining battery specifications
- Working with operations teams to confirm and optimize routing for compatibility with EVs.
- Designing and installing infrastructure
- Deploying, managing, and improving performance of EVs
The Transportation Technology Manager will play an important role in leading projects through initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and completion.
