What are the responsibilities and job description for the Maitre D position at Dear Annie?
Dear Annie, the NY Times award-winning wine bar by Rebel Rebel, is hiring a Maitre'd.
Are you the life of the party? The host with the most? Do you delight in delighting others?
Do you not only remember your friends' birthdays, but that they prefer pie to cake? Pét nat to Champagne? Dahlias to roses? Is your magnanimity matched only by your love for a beautifully set table? Is charming people into submission your toxic trait?
We want you to help run the show.
This position is uniquely suited to experienced and passionate hospitality professionals looking for a reliable schedule, manageable hours, and clear responsibilities. Ideal candidates will be gracious, generous, and highly organized, with an eye for detail and beautiful design. Comfortability working in a fast-paced environment is a must, as is the ability to maintain grace under pressure and think on your feet.
The Maitre'd will be responsible for booking and managing reservations, both before and during service. This includes taking reservations over the phone, monitoring Resy for new reservations, and ensuring the team is aware of and ready to accommodate any special requests or dietary needs indicated on the reservations. Utilizing the CRM functionality of Resy to record guest preferences will be key to maintaining a high-touch service experience in this role.
This team member will plan the dining room in advance of service, enabling the maximization of seating throughout the evening. During service, they'll be responsible for monitoring the pace of seated diners, improvising to make room for walk-in guests and any unexpected lags in turn times. They'll also take the lead on ensuring casual, high-touch service standards are met by the rest of the team, so confidence in leadership and concise, clear communication of expectations are imperative. Additionally, the Maitre'd will be integral to the advance planning of private events (including buyouts), working with the Director of Operations, Chef and Assistant Wine Director to ensure guest expectations are communicated and met.
At least 3 years previous experience working in a full-service restaurant is a requirement for the role, and candidates should be adept at using reservation programs like Resy and/or Opentable. Working knowledge of seating maximization and an understanding of how to control the flow of service should come naturally to applicants interested in the position. Bonus attributes include experience with Canva, existing wine knowledge, and floral design.
This is the perfect opportunity for a seasoned hospitality professional looking for a little more work-life balance in a role that still allows you to use your skills to create memorable experiences for our guests.
This is a full-time, management-level role that requires weekend availability. Average shifts will last from 2PM-10PM and may vary with private event schedules.
