Summary:

General duties include negotiating contracts with vendors, issuing purchase orders for materials, matching purchase orders with invoices and verifying delivery schedules. The buyer will need to stay up-to-date on pricing and industry trends, such as special taxes levied on medical devices and GS1 supply chain standard that govern bar codes and other universal tracking methods for equipment and healthcare supplies. The buyer will frequently communicate with hospital departments to monitor their needs. The buyer will need to coordinate purchases with an outside group-purchasing organization that assists multiple health care providers in obtaining supplies and equipment at lower rates.

This position requires frequent fingering, handling, and lifting and carrying 0-10 lbs, as well as frequently walking, sitting, reaching outward, reaching above shoulders and pushing and pulling 12-25 lbs.
