The Role
As the PX Generalist you champion the safety standards, company core values, and PX pillars via the HR insights you provide to the business planning and operation. You support the distribution center by coaching the DC leadership team when it comes to handling human resources related complex scenarios. The PX Generalist partners with the leaders to execute an effective development and growth plan for the associate. Supports the Loss Prevention and Safety Team with Risk Management regarding Health and Safety. Supports the businesses in building a strong team aligned with the Deckers Brands Core Values; and strives for a healthy work environment for all, including high morale, employee engagement and retention.

This role will partner with and advise leadership and employees on a range of PX programs, procedures, and policies spanning the full employee lifecycle. The Generalist will maintain a holistic view of PX resources, leveraging knowledge and PX partners to enable better organizational decisions and support. As a Generalist you support the distribution center with talent acquisition support including recruiting, sourcing, and interviewing.

Essential functions include, but not limited to;
PX Program Implementation & Support (35%)
- Support and facilitate the communication and rollout of PX programs and policies to the DC leaders and employees; advise on the interpretation of policies and seek guidance from Organizational Effectiveness (OE) & People Success (PS) teams as needed.
- Support the communication and rollout of routine processes, including performance management, compensation review, goal setting, etc.
- Support the deployment of appropriate resources and tools in support of diversity and inclusion initiatives; ensure compliance of local practices with all applicable Federal and state laws and guidelines
- Guide the resolution and escalation of questions regarding PX practices, procedures, and tools; refer employees to the appropriate channels, whether PS, COEs, or Internal Partners as needed
- Prepare and analyze routine and ad-hoc data requests & reporting; partner closely with PX team on reporting activities; Leverage data to make recommendations for learning, development, and engagement opportunities.
- Participate in the development and deployment of OE initiatives
- Provide guidance to managers to help support and resolve complex performance management and/or employee relations concerns, including general conflict resolution, management, and coaching; Refer employees to People Success or ER team where appropriate.
- Be a consultant to the contingent workforce management team to support with ER matters.
- Support managers in addressing employee performance issues, including reviewing and approving documentation such as Performance Improvement Plans (PIPs) and Correctives.
- Partner with Manager and Sr Manager, Employee Relations, to support in the resolution of any potential Ethics Hotline Cases, Internal Investigations/Complaints, or other Level 3 ER issues; Provide guidance to people leaders on any involuntary terminations
- Conduct exit interviews and provide summary feedback and guidance to leaders; identify and share trends and opportunities for coaching, learning, and development
- Partner with OE team to support in the preparation for and delivery of workshops such as Talent Review sessions, workforce planning, succession planning, etc.; Facilitate select workshops to support the local rollout of PX initiatives
- Support and advise people leaders in the drafting of role specific competencies and job descriptions
- Provide guidance and feedback to leaders on the creation of new job descriptions; Partner with PX team to have new roles assessed for level and target compensation
- Provide support and coaching to leaders and employees on matters related to career pathing and development, leveraging OE tools such as personal development plans (PDPs)
- Partner with leaders on the interpretation of and action planning against employee engagement survey results
- Partner with local leadership on peak season strategy, including conversion qualifications to ensure impartial and consistent practice are being followed.
- Participate in interview process for management and other key positions.
- Collaborate with TA team in support of pre-start communication with candidates, as well as other transactions within Applicant Tracking System (ATS) as needed.
- Connect with People Success team when background check issues are discovered, communicating appropriate updates to local leadership team.
- Support the rollout of onboarding programs and activities, including the approval of new user set ups.
- Engage through corporate or local surveys.
- Request for onsite benefits quarterly recognitions
- Leadership advising/training on having difficult conversations – side by side support during involuntary terminations.
- DC support with headcount variance over the course of a fiscal year.
- HRIS – workday reporting administrator
- Facilitate training for associate to management level.
- Handle local benefits and leave of absences inquiries including any workers’ comp claims.
- Support with projects as needed.
- 4 year degree, or equivalent combined of education & relatable experience
- 3 yrs. experience as an HR Generalist, Specialist, or HR Representative.
- Experience in a DC environment and partnering with 3rd party workforce in a high volume.
- Experience delivering presentations and facilitating workshops to employee groups
- Intermediate level skill in MS Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint,
- HRIS (Workday) experience is a plus
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience writing employment guidelines, letters, etc.
- Working knowledge of state and federal employment standards, laws, and regulations
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is preferred.
