DecoPac, Inc. is a high-growth, high-energy company that designs, markets, and distributes the most popular cake decorations and bakery supplies in the bakery industry. Located in the greater Minneapolis area, we sell and distribute our products to supermarkets, mass and club retailers, independent retail bakeries, ice cream and doughnut stores, as well as directly to consumers throughout the US and UK.
Our Cake Designers are an integral part of the Design and Development team; creating visually stunning cakes that showcase DecoPac’s decorations and supplies. Cake Designers combine their artistic skills, knowledge of baking and pastry techniques, and technical proficiency to create Licensed, seasonal, and everyday cakes of the highest standards. It is the responsibility of a Cake Designer to bring DecoPac and our customer’s visions to life while finding innovative and effective ways to promote products and drive sales. Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams allows a Cake Designer to influence and partner in the product development process. Nationwide influencers of cake design and techniques that are tailored to the needs and skills of our customers and their cake decorator talent.
Responsibilities
- Cake Designing – Design and create photo-ready cakes using a variety of icings, techniques, airbrushing, and company products for the DecoPac website, seasonal and everyday marketing, publishing, sales presentations, and bespoke design solutions for customers. Be ready to create trend-forward cake designs that are executable at all levels.
- Licensing Execution – Design and create licensed cakes, using specific style guide references, including colors and brand-appropriate stylings, to be reviewed and approved by licensees and the DecoPac product manager.
- Food Styling – Use food styling techniques and props so cakes and products look realistic and appealing while holding performance integrity for photo shoots.
- Customization Requests – Create or alter designs per customer preferences and requests.
- Display Cakes – Design and create display cakes used in trade shows and various displays using royal icing.
- Baking – Bake cakes, cookies, and desserts as needed for themed photoshoots and to support the industry's growth of alternative dessert formats.
- Photography – Photograph concept cakes and desserts using a DSLR camera, shutter release, and lighting. Process images and distribute them for visual awareness and approval.
- Digital Asset Management Contributor – Upload assets, input metadata, create share links, and follow an established process for easy visibility of assets curated in our DAM system.
- Product Testing – Maximizes sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, stocking, and production testing of products.
- Price Management – Price out and manage products used to identify upsell or opportunities to increase revenue.
- Understand and utilize market insight, new techniques, and trends to maximize growth in sales while creating cake designs. This includes collaborating with cross-functional teams, accounting for industry changes, and offering labor and efficiency solutions for DecoPac and customer needs.
- Create standard decorating instructions for website and customer needs.
- Proofing DecoPac publications including reviewing and revising catalogs, instructional cards, and fliers.
- Present valuable insight / trends for New Product Development by utilizing knowledge and experience of bakery needs. This includes predicting what consumers and customers will value and demand.
- Order DecoPac products using internal systems or various suppliers. Locate and pull items from our warehouse location if applicable.
- Customer service – Respond to inquiries from customer service and sales. Provide quick, accurate, and comprehensive responses to ensure DecoPac Customers know our products and techniques.
- Update and maintain sample area.
- Manage supply inventory in the DecoDesign room for easy access to frequently used products.
- Appear in instructional and promotional videos.
- Travel and represent DecoPac at various trade shows and events.
- Other duties as assigned.

Physical and Mental Demands
Frequently required to sit or stand for prolonged periods, talk / listen, use hands and bakery equipment; Must be able to lift 50 pounds occasionally; Must be able to use heavy bakery equipment; Must have acceptable vision and the ability to adjust focus; Ability to interpret data, organize, problem solve and time management; Occasional travel may be required (10% or less)
Work Environment
Work is performed in an office, warehouse and bakery environment. The noise levels are usually moderate. Employees are expected to follow all Company safety programs.
