Job Overview
The Livestock Exhibits Lead will guide the work of other Exhibit workers for set up and tear-down of livestock exhibits, perform their daily lead duties during the annual fair, complete office and administrative support, answer questions from the public, acts as lead for all livestock competitions, including support for online entries, fair time and post-fair reports.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:
- Provides guidance to other Exhibit crew in the execution of their job duties
- Assist in the organization, development and functioning of the San Diego County Fair Large & Small Animal Livestock Competitions and exhibit.
- Clerk livestock shows, assist with Junior Livestock Auction.
- Assist exhibitors in online entry process as needed.
- Responsible for coordinating the completion of Breed Association Result reports, Champion Summaries, Media Reports and Premium Proofs from the results of competitions.
- Follow up with ring activities, schedules and equipment needs.
- Organize and print species judging forms, distribute to necessary department and achieve needed materials for future reference.
- Contact Associations for up-to-date information on registration procedures.
- Answer exhibitor’s questions and requests in person, via email, phone calls, or mail.
- Coordinate research, bidding, procurement, storage, inventory and distribution of awards including trophies, plaques, livestock banners, ribbons, buckles and other special awards.
- Prepares calendar to assist in preparation of deadlines, judging, special presentations, contests, and award ceremonies.
- Creates correspondence for judges, presenters, speakers, and volunteers utilizing typing skills, computer applications, and written communication skills.
- Assists in creating and maintaining various spreadsheets for entries and competitions by entering accurate data information in Excel.
- Reviews entry materials, entry fees, delivery dates, etc. for understanding and clarification.
- Verifies completeness and accuracy of paperwork.
- Files and organizes documents and records in various filing systems utilizing organizational skills.
- Operates a variety of office equipment including a computer, copier, scanner, fax machine, telephone, and utilizes various computer applications.
- Performs responsibilities in an efficient manner and according to procedures to ensure expediency and accuracy while meeting deadlines.
- Performs other related duties as assigned or requested when needed.
- Assists in promoting our fair values by creating quality guest experiences for both internal and external customers.

- Ability to handle and evaluate livestock.
- Experience showing livestock.
- Experience in proper movement of livestock and animal welfare practices.
- Experience in the clerking or coordination of livestock show.
Working Conditions
- Work is indoors and outdoors.
- Outdoor work may involve some exposure to weather conditions.
- Exposure to farm animals, animal waste, dust, dirt, and unpleasant odors.
- Moves objects at least 30 pounds.
- Works a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
- May be exposed to extreme temperatures, manure, airborne dust, fumes, strenuous physical activity or heavy lifting
