Job Overview
A position within the Agriculture, Arts and Education Department, the Livestock Exhibit Attendant:
· Assists in the set-up, maintenance, and tear-down of livestock competition and educational
exhibits, performs daily duties during the annual fair, completes department support,
answers questions from the public, acts as lead for all livestock competitions, and supports
any operations within the program as necessary.
Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited, to the following:
· Serve as a team player in the organization, development and functioning of the San Diego County Fair Large & Small Animal Livestock Competitions and Educational Exhibits.
· Assist in the operation of showring and barn activities, judging, special presentations, contests, and award ceremonies.
· Assist in the management of livestock shows and Junior Livestock Auction as needed.
· Serve as a team player in the organization, development and functioning of the San Diego County Fair Large & Small Animal Livestock Competitions and Educational Exhibits.
· Utilize and operate a variety of office equipment including, but not limited to; computer, copier, scanner, fax machine, telephone, and utilize various computer applications.
· Utilize and operate a variety of mechanical equipment including, but not limited to; forklift, skid steer, golfcart, and various gas and electric power tools.
· Provide guidance to other Exhibit crew in the execution of their job duties.
· Perform responsibilities in an efficient manner and according to procedures to ensure expediency and accuracy while meeting deadlines.
· Promotes the District's F.A.I.R. values by creating a quality guest experience for both internal and external customers.
· Perform other related duties as assigned or requested when needed.
Qualifications
· Excellent customer service, oral, and written communication skills.
· Good judgement, professionalism, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
· Ability to work independently or cooperatively in a group setting while being able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment where priorities often change.
· Livestock experience and knowledge, including but not limited to; proper handling and animal welfare practices, health evaluation, identification methods, and showing.
Working Conditions
· Indoor work includes periods of sitting, using a computer and other office equipment.
· Outdoor work includes exposure to weather conditions and fluctuating temperatures.
· Exposure to farm animals, dust, dirt, and unpleasant odors.
· Moderate physical exertion includes walking, standing, squatting, bending, and lifting to 75 lbs.
· Schedule requires work outside of traditional hours and, on some occasions, extended workdays.
· Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays outside of fair dates.
Salary : $17 - $18
