What are the responsibilities and job description for the Probation Program Assistant/Community Service Coordinator position at Delaware, County of (OH)?
This is a dual role in the Delaware County Juvenile Probation Department. The incumbent is responsible for providing administrative and programmatic support to the Probation Department; as well as working with youth who have been ordered to complete community service/restitution. Incumbent reports to the Chief Probation Officer.

Qualifications for this position are as follows:
- Completion of a secondary education or equivalent plus special training usually gained through technical training.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing;
- Ability to confront and correct inappropriate behavior;
- Ability to establish rapport with youth and agencies;
- Ability to manage time effectively;
- Ability to type and enter data;
- Knowledge of and ability to use modeling skills, e.g. to remain open to suggestion and critique, to engage in conflict and disagreement in a productive manner, to properly manage stress, to maintain a proper perspective and to reflect a sense of stability;
- Knowledge of the rules and procedures for CPR;
- Knowledge of Juvenile Court Judicial System, terminology, procedures, and county personnel policies and procedures; and
- Must have a clean criminal record and valid Ohio Driver’s License.
The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
- Greets and directs clients to appropriate persons and/or departments;
- Administers drug and alcohol screens;
- Performs word processing duties including the creation of various databases, forms, brochures, pamphlets, letters, charts, graphs and reports;
- Provides transportation for and supervises juvenile participants to and from community service work sites and assures each youth has properly signed release forms;
- Reinforces rules, maintains structure and encourages teamwork while at job site;
- Assists probation staff in case management and may perform probation officer duties as coverage for probation officers on an as-needed basis;
- Corresponds with law enforcement agencies in emergency situations and when a youth is detained;
- Assists with the placement of youth in holding cells to include collecting personal property, labeling it and placing it in the transportation file cabinet;
- Ensures that vehicles and equipment are maintained;
- Monitors youth in holding cells (and waiting room when necessary) and makes probation officers aware of any problems; provide youth with food and breaks when appropriate;
- Transports youth to and from detention, appointments, etc. as necessary;
- Creates, publishes and distributes staff meeting notes.
