General Description of the Position
Reporting to the Department Chair, the Assistant Professor will be responsible for the primary task of teaching undergraduate courses offered as part of the Kinesiology major curriculum. The qualified candidate will be adaptable and capable of teaching a variety of courses within the Kinesiology major program of study. Also, the candidate is expected to demonstrate expertise in research design methodology, synthesizing technologically innovative research and / or community-based projects, and acquiring funds through grants. In addition to the expectation of the candidate to actively pursue a line of research related to Kinesiology, it is also expected that the candidate serves on committees and participate in other official activities on the departmental, college, and university level
Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The following are the functions essential to performing this job.
1. Teach courses within the Kinesiology curriculum. Possible courses may include but are not limited to : Motor Learning & Control with lab, Psychology of Physical Activity, Fundamentals of Kinesiology, Biomechanics with lab, Motor Development, Research Design, and Kinesiology Senior Seminar-Internship.
2. Synthesize, coordinate, and supervise Kinesiology-related research.
3. Advise and / or mentor Kinesiology majors.
4. Participate in University / College / Department / Professional committees.
5. Engage in community service.
6. Demonstrate, maintain, and continue professional competence and knowledge of subject matter.
Qualification Standards
Qualification Standards
- A Doctoral degree in Kinesiology or some other closely related field.
Commitment to excellence in teaching as evidenced by a presentation during a campus visit or virtual interview.
Productive scholarship within a defined research agenda related to the field of Kinesiology that provides the opportunity for interdisciplinary learning and research collaboration.
Ability to contribute to a positive work environment within the department.
Technological literacy and the willingness to implement technology-based strategies into the teaching and learning processes.
Commitment to professional and community service within Delaware State University and surrounding communities.
Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of this employment appointment.
Preferred Qualifications :
A record of publications, presentations, and attainment of external funding.
Professional certifications from the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM), National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA), or other relevant professional organizations.
Interest in working with a diverse population of undergraduate students.
