As an integral member of our team, you will ensure a smooth transition of youth from the residential program to the Learning Center each morning and provide ongoing support throughout the day.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure a seamless transition of youth from the residential program to the Learning Center, including escorting students to class and facilitating communication between teachers and staff.
- Assist teachers in small groups or one-on-one activities that engage students in learning tasks, as directed by certified educators.
- Interact with students within learning activities and provide proactive positive reinforcement and behavioral strategies, aligned with Positive Behavior Support (PBS) and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Submit all necessary documents in a clear, concise, and timely manner through our Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Implement behavioral plans and collect data using relevant logs and documentation within the EHR.
- Ensure students have unfinished work or homework to complete during study time.
- Participate in Planning and Placement Team (PPT) meetings and provide information on student progress as requested.
- Intervene with students who require removal from class due to behavioral issues, as instructed by the responsible teacher.
- Moderate interpersonal conflicts between students.
- Foster therapeutic relationships with youth to implement and support programming components within individual treatment plans and IEPs.
- Teach youth self-management techniques, emphasizing internal assets through boundaries, guidelines, roles, and rules.
- Apply Physical Management Techniques (PMT) as a last resort to maintain a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Collaborate with teachers, staff, and administrators to promote academic and therapeutic goals.
- Attend mandatory professional development training and staff meetings at both the Learning Center and Residential Program sites.
Requirements
To succeed in this role, you will possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in a human services or educational field or 60 credits from an accredited institution with at least two years of relevant experience.
- Experience working with Emotionally Disturbed and/or Intellectually Disabled students or those with special needs is preferred.
- The ability to work effectively with students and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
- Training in PMT, CPR, First Aid, and PBS is required and will be provided by our agency.
- A positive attitude, sound judgment, and capacity to develop rapport with students and staff.
- Willingness to learn and implement Positive Behavioral Support systems.
- Flexibility in meeting program and individual needs as they arise.
- A valid driver's license and excellent driving record are required to ensure the safety of youth and adherence to our insurance carrier's policies.
