Background
'Valiant House' offers comprehensive treatment services on a 24/7 basis in a home-like environment, so traumatized boys can heal as they learn to live as responsible members of a family and community. We house 5 boys between the ages of 12-17 years old.
Responsibilities
The Youth Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the therapeutic group home. They provide direct care, supervision, behavior management, proactive interventions, and recreational programming for the children. They will participate in the planning and implementation of programming specifically designed to encourage developmental growth for the clients. They will provide crisis intervention, including performing restraints when necessary.
The Youth Specialist is responsible to provide observations of resident behaviors with the Residential Supervisors and the clinical staff as needed. Must have the temperament to work with, and care for, children and youth. Create and maintain a clean work environment, attend bi-monthly staff meetings, administer medication, as scheduled by a nurse and prescribed by the psychiatrist, and adhere to the staffing schedule. Shift assignments are determined by program needs.
Wellmore will pay for you to become CPR/First Aid Certified within 90 days of your start date - classes will be onsite.
Qualifications
Education and experience requirements
- Minimum high school diploma, associate’s degree preferred.
- Prefer at least three to four years of experience working with children or adolescents. Prefer at least one year of experience in a youth-oriented program.
- Ability to deal with crisis situations, implement a behavior modification program, maintain appropriate boundaries and work as a team member.
- Knowledge of cultural diversity and childhood & adolescent development is preferred.
- Must have a valid driver’s license.
