Delbrook's Community-Based Residences (CBRs) provide a supportive living environment for young adults with developmental disabilities. Our CBRs are designed to promote independence and growth, while also ensuring the individuals who reside there receive the support they need to thrive.
Job Summary:
As a Community Support Counselor at Delbrook, you will work with individuals with developmental disabilities to provide support and guidance in their daily lives. This includes assisting with daily activities, such as personal care, meal preparation, and household chores, as well as providing behavioral support and interventions as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Establish and maintain a therapeutic relationship with individuals to facilitate learning and promote positive behaviors.
- Provide positive reinforcement for appropriate behaviors and social interactions, and provide constructive feedback as needed.
- Support learning and development through leading by example and being a good role model in all interactions.
- Implement daily activity schedules and individualized programming throughout the shift, including behavioral programming, life skills, educational services, medical appointments, and leisure/recreational activities.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of individuals in the environment by being prepared to implement therapeutic crisis interventions, including hands-on physical interventions as required.
- Collect data on programming and complete required reports in a clear and concise writing style.
- Work collaboratively with clinical team members to assess, develop, and monitor progress on established goals.
- Contribute to maintaining a clean and safe environment, including individual and agency property.
- Obtain and maintain required training, certifications, and driver's license with a good driving record.
- Follow agency policies and procedures, work scheduled shifts, and provide coverage as determined essential by supervisor.
- Comply with the Behavior Support Plan (BSP) and all house and individual-specific required documentation.
- May be required to work holidays, during inclement weather, and other times as directed by management.
- Required to successfully obtain DDS Medication Certification and comply with DDS standards to maintain DDS Medication Certification in good standing.
Education, Experience, and Other Qualifications:
Candidates must have a high school diploma and at least one year's experience working with youth with Pervasive Disability Disorders (PDD) and/or who have conditions on the Autism Spectrum (ASD) and display challenging behaviors.
The ideal candidate will have additional college-level credits in psychology, social work, human services, criminal justice, education, or a related field, and experience implementing individualized behavioral programming.
Candidates will be required to attend and successfully complete a series of training programs, including Agency Orientation, Psychological/Physical Management Training (PMT), CPR/FA, medication administration program, Risking Connections, and others required by the work location or agency.
