Job Summary
Provides group underwriting services for new business and renewals. Works with sales team to grow and retain business and to maintain positive relationships with customers and brokers.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Evaluates, classifies, and rates each new business risk to determine acceptability, coverage, and pricing.
- Influences retention of business by reviewing current plan’s premium and claims history to determine appropriate renewal action.
- Runs manual rate calculations for non-experience rated business.
- Prices plan changes and additional plan options.
- Responds to inquiries from sales and account management teams, brokers, and customers.
- Prepares required reporting for group benefit plans, e.g., 5500/Schedule A forms.
- Assists VP of U&A in producing essential reports for senior management.

Technical and Functional
- Analytical skills are a must, including the desire to maintain high quality results with a high attention to documentation detail.
- Strong math and statistical skills.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Salesforce.com.
- Ability to adapt to new tools and changing requirements.
- Knowledge of SQL and relational database management systems is a plus.
- Vision underwriting experience is a plus.
- Actuarial experience is a plus.

Experience Required
- 1 to 3 years of group underwriting experience, ancillary benefits experience preferred
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Insurance or benefits certifications such as CEBS, CLU, REBC preferred
