Position Summary Information
Responsibilities
- Serve as an academic pathways/majors coach for DSU students seeking to declare a major or explore majors and/or careers.
- Serve as University contact for Complete to Compete (C2C) program.
- Coordinate Pre-registration events and promotions.
- Work closely with each academic department and other student support staff to promote DSU services and student success.
- Provide assistance to students in the areas of academic success, career development, career exploration and connect students with resources on and off campus to promote student success and graduation.
- Plan and implement programs to assist undergraduate students in their academic success, including study skills and selection of major.
- Work closely with Institutional Research, project director, Student Success staff, and other campus departments to prepare required programmatic reports.
- Work closely with Orientation and First Year Experience to assist students in transitioning to college.
- Follow guidelines with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA) as they pertain to the students’ rights to privacy and accuracy and retention of academic records.
- Collaboratively work with campus partners to stay abreast of opportunities in various fields/ majors and to identify strategies to address issues hindering success and re-entry barriers.
- Any other duties as assigned related to student success and academic advising.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred.
- Experience in academic advising a plus, but not required.
- Demonstrated record of:
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and oral/written communication skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a changing, evolving department.
- Integrity and commitment to developing and maintaining the highest academic standards and working with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff.
- Knowledge of test-taking strategies, time management and study techniques.
- Must be a United States citizen or have legal authorization to work in the United States.
- Basic understanding of Banner, new media (Website, Facebook, Twitter, etc.)
Salary
Commensurate with experience, qualifications, and university’s resources.
