Research Director, Analytical Services V
Democracy International (DI) is seeking to hire a Research Director for the anticipated Analytical Services V contract funded by USAID’s Bureau for Democracy, Human Rights, and Governance (DRG). This activity will provide services–including analysis, assessment, research, training, communications, knowledge management, and tailored, rapid-response technical resources and support–to the DRG Bureau, USAID Missions, and other USAID operating units that will inform and advance DRG approaches and programming across the globe. The Research Director will manage all aspects of the contract pertaining to research, analysis, and technical assistance on DRG and will report to the Senior Program Manager.
This will be a full-time position based in DI’s home office in Bethesda, MD and will be contingent on award and funding.

Essential Job Duties:
The position’s responsibilities will include:
- Manage all aspects of the contract pertaining to research, analysis, and technical assistance;
- Ensure the high quality and rigor of taskings;
- Lead and oversee research design, including using applied USAID approaches and rigorous scientific methodologies;
- Oversee the technical and methodological aspects of research and learning tasking implementation;
- Coordinate and communicate with the USAID COR and/or tasking managers, including on technical aspects of recruitment, study designs, instruments, data collection, data security and privacy, data analysis, writing, and dissemination;
- Coordinate with other DI technical teams, such as the Social and Behavioral Science & Learning Team, to identify and recruit technical expertise as necessary;
- Ensure high quality and rigor of research, evaluation, and learning;
Secondary Job Duties:
- Contribute to ongoing Democracy International business development efforts around the world.
Qualifications:
- Graduate degree (PhD or MA) and at least 10 years of experience in DRG research, learning, and analysis. Degree in and/or experience with the behavioral sciences preferred;
- Demonstrated experience applying different research frameworks/methodologies and best practices in research utilization and dissemination. Experience with applied behavioral analytical frameworks preferred;
- Excellent English oral and written communication skills and the ability to translate highly technical research for a practitioner audience;
- Excellent experience using both qualitative and quantitative research methods;
- Demonstrated DRG research and learning experience, preferably with USAID;
- Demonstrated ability to establish and sustain interpersonal and professional relationships with both the research community and the practitioner community and serve as a bridge between them.
Reporting:
- This position reports to the Analytical Services V Senior Program Manager.
