Will assist family law attorneys by conducting legal research, gathering client information, preparing necessary legal documents like divorce petitions, child support calculations, and property division agreements, scheduling court appearances, and providing overall support throughout the family law case process, ensuring all deadlines are met while maintaining client confidentiality. Candidate needs to be reliable and be punctual to work on a consistent basis.
Key responsibilities of a family law paralegal :
- Client intake :
Gathering detailed information from clients regarding their marital status, assets, debts, children, and other relevant factors.
Investigating applicable family law statutes, case precedents, and relevant regulations.
Drafting legal documents including divorce petitions, child custody agreements, child support calculations, property division agreements, and settlement agreements.
Organizing and analyzing financial records like tax returns, bank statements, and retirement accounts.
Preparing and filing necessary court documents with the appropriate court.
Coordinating court appearances, mediations, depositions, and client meetings.
Maintaining contact with clients, updating them on case progress, and addressing inquiries.
Maintaining detailed case files, tracking deadlines, and ensuring all necessary information is properly documented.
