Description
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Shelter Aide to join our Residential Services Team serving survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. The Shelter Aide facilitates communication with all residential clients, staff, and volunteers and provides information, assistance, and support.
Reports to: Director of Residential and Crisis Services
Primary Functions:
- Provide support services to residential clients, including but not limited to crisis intervention, support, and transportation
- Answer, assist, and/or direct requests for information/referrals and basic needs
- Facilitate weekly house meetings
- Conduct shelter intakes
- Provide maintenance and supply needs to supervisor
- Preserve and enhance the Agency’s image in the community through all interactions
- At every opportunity, inform community members of services available to victims of relationship violence and sexual assault through Friends of the Family
- Provide safety planning and crisis intervention for crisis line callers
- Provide telephone screening for shelter eligibility
- Coordinate and provide transportation to shelter for eligible persons
- Dispatch Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners and Survivor Advocates to Denton County Hospitals for victims of domestic violence and sexual assault
- Provide callers with appropriate community resource referrals and information regarding protective orders, crime victim’s compensation, Child Protective services, and all DCFOF agency services
- Participate in DCFOF staff and education meetings as requested.

Requirements
Prerequisites:
- High school diploma or GED
- Demonstrated ability to listen to others and display empathy
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, Access, and other Windows based programs
- Minimum 23 years old
- Clean driving record
Preferences:
- Bilingual in Spanish
- Some college with a background in social work, counseling, or related field
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
- Ability to easily climb stairs
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time
