Denton Floyd Real Estate Group is expanding, and we are seeking a highly skilled General Counsel to join our team. This is an office-based role located at our new corporate headquarters near downtown Louisville in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Founded in 2008, Denton Floyd Real Estate Group is a full-service real estate firm specializing in the development, design, construction, and property management of multi-family, senior living and industrial assets. With over 12,000 units under management or development in Kentucky, Indiana, Florida, Tennessee, Ohio, and South Carolina since 2012, Denton Floyd offers superior service and a quality product to clients and residents.
We are seeking a seasoned General Counsel to lead our legal strategy and ensure compliance across all facets of real estate development and corporate operations. This role is ideal for a business-minded professional with strong expertise in real estate transactions, land use, contracts and risk management. As a key member of the team, the General Counsel will provide strategic legal guidance to support our growth and expansion.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead all legal aspects of acquisitions, financing, leasing and development
Advise on corporate structuring, risk management and regulatory compliance, including entity
formation and deal structures
Draft, review and negotiate real estate agreements, contracts and critical legal documents
Oversee litigation strategy and manage outside counsel when necessary
Provide legal guidance on zoning, entitlement and permitting matters
Identify legal risks and develop mitigation strategies to protect the company’s interests
Qualities Desired in Successful Candidate:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
Active bar admission in Kentucky and/or Indiana
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications and legal software
Strategic and detail-oriented legal leader who thrives in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
Strong background in real estate law, corporate finance and business transactions
Excellent negotiation, problem-solving and risk assessment skills
High level of professionalism, discretion and integrity in handling sensitive information
Ability to manage multiple priorities, tight deadlines and complex transactions
Strong business acumen with a practical, solution-oriented approach
Experience:
5-7 years of experience practicing in-house or at a law firm in the areas of real estate, corporate
law or finance/lending
Extensive knowledge of real estate transactions, development, construction and land use law
Experience in corporate finance or tax is a plus
Schedule:
Day shift
Monday to Friday
Occasional evening and weekend availability required
