Denver Language School (DLS) is a public, tuition-free language immersion charter school located in East Denver. DLS provides an innovative academic program to reach the highest levels of student achievement through comprehensive language immersion education in Spanish and Mandarin Chinese; DLS has a middle school French pathway. DLS offers traditional learning activities in the target language, making the language both the medium and the object of instruction.
Position Overview:
The K-8 504 Coordinator provides support to students with 504 Service Agreements and will manage students with 504 plans. They will consult regularly with general education teachers, support staff, students, and families to ensure that each child successfully completes their instructional program. Additionally, the K-8 Section 504 Coordinator will facilitate the evaluation process and eligibility determination for 504 plans, develop 504 plans, and monitor the implementation of Section 504 plans. The highly qualified candidate will work closely with other teachers and school staff to ensure the implementation of Section 504 procedures in the school’s public program and is successful and operating in compliance with federal and state regulations. This position involves a significant amount of adult-to-adult facing interactions, including a large number of in-person meetings with families, advocates, representatives of the authorizing district and peers from similar schools and organizations. Essential Functions and Objectives:
- Manage and ensure effective 504 plan implementation for students on his/her caseload
- Develop, write and help implement 504 plans
- Coordinates Section 504 referral process
- Provides notices and consents to families
- Facilitates evaluation/eligibility determination team meetings for Section 504
- Schedule, organize and conduct annual reviews, bi-annual, and tri-annual re-evaluations of each student with a Section 504 plan
- Participate in the school’s Student Support Team across both campuses; support teachers to develop and implement program accommodations and strategies for struggling learners who may be eligible for 504 plan and/or special education services
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date data in the school’s Learning Management System for Section 504 students
- Assist with administering state testing and coordinate the accommodations that are required based on the 504 plan
- Effective communication with families, students, and district partners
- Attends regularly scheduled professional development and Section 504 training meetings
- Develops and implements student interventions
- Other duties as assigned
Preferred Knowledge:
- Experience in writing 504 Eligibility and Accommodation Plans or Individual Education Plans
- Knowledge of IDEA disabilities
- Knowledge of accommodations, modifications, and assistive technology in the school setting to address all of the above issues and be able to support teachers with implementation
- Understanding of student behavior and mental health issues and appropriate interventions
- Experience with inter-agency collaboration for mental health and behavioral support
- Experience and understanding of the foundations of functional behavior assessments to develop behavioral interventions for students grades K-12
- Knowledge in understanding in regard to school refusal related to truancy or mental health issues, and distinguishing between the two
- Experience and knowledge of tiered intervention programs for academic, behavioral, and truancy problems
- Knowledge of scientifically-based and research-validated intervention and instructional programs for reading, math, writing, and behavior management
- Knowledge and experience with data-driven instruction linked to scientifically-based and research-validated interventions
- Experience collaborating with parents to build truancy elimination plans
- Experience with using diagnostic tools and approaches to determine the root of academic concerns and their link to appropriate intervention
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required, Masters degree preferred
- Fluency in Spanish, French, or Mandarin Chinese language preferred
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
- Ability to multitask and prioritize work as needed; be willing to manage and juggle multiple competing tasks and demands
- Ability to demonstrate regular attendance and punctuality
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor in all situations and must be able to withhold confidential information
- Ability to respond to changing situations in the workplace and exhibit flexibility
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing and the use of proper grammar and punctuation to write routine reports and correspondence
- Ability to operate standard office equipment including using pertinent job related software applications and preparing and maintaining accurate records
Salary Range: $55,000 - $58,000; new to DLS employees will be placed at this range.
