Position Title: Community Life Coordinator (also known as a "Shelter Associate")

Reports to: Community Life Supervisor

Job Classification: Non-exempt

Salary Range: $18.81 - $22.55 per hour

 

Schedule:  Friday through Monday, 6:00am to 12:30pm

At multiple locations throughout our community, we help restore the lives of people experiencing homelessness and addiction through emergency services, rehabilitation, transitional programs, and community outreach.


The Opportunity: 

 The Community Life Coordinator (CLC) position is a part-time, seasonal, non-exempt position at the Fort Collins Rescue Mission Mason Overflow Shelter. The CLC reports directly to the Community Life Supervisor and is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the shelter and the activities that take place therein. 


Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:


Security and Safety:

  • The CLC is responsible for the security and safety of the facility and residents during their shift. This includes control of drugs, alcohol, or other hazards, which could jeopardize the purpose of the Mission or its clients.
  • The CLC must have working knowledge of the Safety Manual and MSDS Manual.
  • It is the responsibility of the CLC to see that situations that jeopardize the safety of the Mission and its occupants are handled appropriately. This means handling difficult and unruly clients, as well as making certain that occupants are free from drugs, alcohol and weapons.
  • The CLC will see to the welfare of outside guests by calling police, ambulances or keeping the dining room open during inclement weather for shelter from the elements.
  • The CLC will monitor and relay weather information to the Supervisor of Community Life Services and/or the Director of Community Life Services in case overflow is needed and will also do the same for potential weather-related emergencies.

Facilities:

  • Cleanliness: The CLC is to see that the Mission is cleaned according to the established standard. This includes daily cleaning, removal, dispersion, or storage of all clutter, trash, donations, parking lot trash, sidewalks, etc. There will be no unnecessary accumulation of anything. If you feel the Mission needs something beyond what is normally understood to be mandatory, it must be cleared by the Director of Community Life and or Shelter Supervisor.
  • CLC's are responsible for washing all sheets/blankets for overflow each day.
  • The CLC will maintain the dorm to the established standard (monitored through daily walk-throughs).
  • Inventory: The CLC will follow the established means of receiving, recording, monitoring, and the distribution of inventory supplies purchased by the mission or donated to the mission for daily operations. 
  • Maintenance: Through daily inspections, the CLC will submit maintenance tickets through Sharepoint and cc theMaintenance Supervisor and Director of Community Life.

General duties:

  • Schedule: The CLC will ensure that all services are started and finished according to schedule to include overflow check-ins and exits, meal service, bed checks, showers, etc.
  • Intake: The CLC is responsible for conducting intake interviews and entering information into databases along with tracking daily numbers for shelter and shelter activities.

Other Responsibilities:

  • The CLC should understand their role in the daily running of the Mission, including the specific shifts area of focus: cleanliness, safety, and security.
  • The CLC must have a good working knowledge of the facility, program policies and procedures, operation of the facility, mechanical operation of the facility (including: fire alarm, electric, gas, and water shut-off, etc.) and how to control and track inventory and the inventory use of the maintenance room, pipeline responsibilities, safety, MSDS guidelines, employee handbook, and GIK receiving and distribution.
  • The CLC must schedule time off with the Community Life Supervisor or Director of Community Life to ensure there is always a staff member on duty during all shifts.
  • It is of vital importance that the CLC shows their presence throughout the facility throughout their shift.
  • Other tasks as assigned by the Shelter Supervisor and Director of Community Life.
  • During the winter season: the CLC, with an approved driver’s license and driving record, may be required to transport meals and linens to and from the Seasonal Overflow Shelter.

Working Conditions:

  • Will require occasional lifting of up to 35 lbs. and will include bending and climbing stairs.
  • Work with individuals who are experiencing homelessness, addiction, mental illness, and a myriad of other issues related to homeless populations.
  • Possible exposure to communicable diseases.

Requirements

MINIMUIM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • Active Driver’s License as a limited amount of work-related travel may be required.
  • One year of relevant experience. A combination of education and experience may be substituted.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and able to learn new software.
  • Strong communication skills both written and orally.
  • Ability to resolve conflict professionally and respectfully while maintaining composure under pressure.
  • Strong Christian ethic with ability to work with people of diverse cultural, educational, and religious backgrounds.
  • Basic knowledge of Windows software applications.
  • Work schedule as assigned.
  • Must be a Christian holding to the beliefs set forth in the Statement of Faith, expressed by a personal testimony and Christian conduct.

NOTE: A limited amount of work-related travel may be required occasionally.
