Position Title: Next Step Peer Navigator 

Reports to: Peer Navigator Supervisor

Job Classification: Full-time; Non-exempt

Salary Range: $20.29 - $24.55

The Opportunity: 

The “Next Step Peer Navigator” (PN) is responsible for providing information, support, referrals, and assistance to guests experiencing homelessness who come to Denver Rescue Mission (DRM) for help.


Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Understand the philosophy of diversion at Denver Rescue Mission (DRM).
  • Knowledge of resources and social services available in the Denver area.
  • Leads presentations for guests about various programs.
  • Provide documentation during community provider meetings on behalf of guests.
  • Assist clients with navigating online resources such as Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (snap) benefits on Colorado Program Eligibility and Application Kit (PEAK) system.
  • Use Clarity Homelessness Management Information System (HMIS) and SCRIBE system to develop reports, spreadsheets and statistics as requested. 
  • Attend and engage in weekly and monthly meetings as assigned by the Peer Navigator Supervisor.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries when working with guests.
  • Engage in ongoing training as assigned as assigned by Peer Navigator Supervisor or Homelessness Resolution Team (HRT) Leadership.
  • Actively assist guests with tasks such as finding service locations, understanding operating hours prioritizing service provider appointments, accomplishing housing tasks online, and filling out paperwork and documentation for services.
  • Provide referrals to agencies and resources, applications and documents, or referrals to a more stable environment such as long-term beds at DRM and other partnering agencies.
  • Administrate all service records and case management records in SCRIBE internal client database and Clarity.
  • Collaborate with Case Management regarding guests as it involves housing resolution tasks.
  • Plan in initiate conversations and engagement activities with targeted guests including but not limited to aiding with basic needs such as clothing, creating activities that might invite our guests to engage in our community and seek support and guidance from our Peer Navigator team.
  • Additional job-related duties as assigned.

  

Requirements

 Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (general education diploma/GED).
  • Must have experienced homelessness prior to this position and be stably out of homelessness for at least one year.
  • Ability to follow highly detailed workflows.
  • Ability and willingness to be transparent, sharing your story and experiences when appropriate and with discernment in order to encourage people to see the positive things they have gained in their adversity.
  • Strong verbal, written and active listening skills. 
  • Ability to hold appropriate boundaries with those we serve.
  • Ability to resolve conflict professionally while maintaining composure under pressure.
  • Basic working knowledge of Windows software applications and ability to gain proficiency with the SCRIBE system.
  • Willingness to work weekends, evenings, and on-call for shifts.
  • Must have an Active Driver’s License as a limited amount of work-related travel may be required.
  • Must be a Christian holding to the beliefs set forth in the Statement of Faith, expressed by a personal testimony and Christian conduct.
