Eastern State Hospital, located in Williamsburg, Virginia, was founded in 1773, with a well-intentional emphasis on community focused mental health care. This state of the art campus, situated on 500 acres, consists of two patient care buildings with 300 patients, and a highly skilled staff of over 900. Eastern State Hospital is part of the Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS) system, and is accredited by the Joint Commission.
This position maintains hospital buildings in a safe, sound an aesthetically pleasing condition conductive to to an effective therapeutic atmosphere for patients and pleasant working conditions for staff. The Trades Manager I provides day to day supervision of staff in the Buildings and Grounds Department, will be conducting Value Engineering on equipment, tools and materials for repair/replacement. Provides inspection of work in progress to ensure safety precautions and building codes are followed to include inspection of completed work assignments. Conducts semi-annual inspections of equipment, structures and campus grounds for proper operation and application. Responsible for planning and implementation of work assignments and schedules, develop and assure all documentation is accurate, complete and submitted within designated time frames. Identifies, locates and requisitions needed parts, tools and equipment for materials and maintenance of operations inventory.
Highly knowledgeable in the methods and material of commercial building construction. Skilled in the operation of pertinent equipment and tools. Knowledgeable in the reading of blueprints and specifications. Ability to plan, supervise, and train daily tasks of Carpentry, Paint, Locksmith, Grounds, and Furniture Repair Shops. Make decisions independently, record keeping, accurately schedule and implement projects or daily routines. Able to communicate clearly, concisely both orally and in writing. Capable of leading, managing and supervising a Trades Department of 15 Staff. Manages the Building and Grounds Trades Shops. Manages the Building and Grounds Department in the absence of the Building and Grounds Director.
Minimum Qualifications
Experience in the methods and material of commercial building construction.
Experience in commercial or industrial construction or maintenance.
Experience with the operation of pertinent equipment and tools of commercial construction.
Experience in reading and interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams and schematics.
Supervision experience in daily tasks of Carpentry, Paint, Locksmith, Grounds, and Furniture Repair Shops.
Experience in record keeping & scheduling of projects or daily routines.
Supervisory experience capable of leading, managing and supervising a Trades Department.
Valid VA Driver's License.
