Are you a skilled communicator passionate about making a positive impact? The Strategic Communication Unit, within the Office of Communication and Public Affairs is seeking an enthusiastic, self-motivated, and creative communicator with attention to detail to join our team.

The successful candidate must possess excellent analytical, organizational, verbal/written communication skills, and be highly dependable. They must also have the knowledge and skills to create compelling graphic content to further the mission and vision of local and statewide communication strategies. Experience producing effective written and visual content is required. Must maintain flexibility, adaptability to change, professionalism and the ability to respond to deadlines.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities are as follows:
  • Create promotional graphic content for the Child Support Program
  • Record and edit audio using studio equipment
  • Record subject matter experts and convert audio for use on our telephone system
  • Maintain and care for department camera and audio equipment
  • Set up and tear down for audio/photo/video shoots (camera, lighting and audio equipment)
  • Attend staff meetings to report on projects, and collaborate during brainstorming sessions
  • Keep staff up to date on projects using email or verbal communication

Working Conditions

DCSS is a diverse, family-friendly organization. The headquarters office is located in Rancho Cordova convenient to Highway 50, with free parking, close to restaurants and shopping. The facility consists of standard office workspace, within a 2-story building, and may require sitting for long periods of time while using a personal computer, reviewing documents, and attending meetings. The position requires occasional travel to off-site meeting locations, conferences, or training. The work environment is fast paced and requires the incumbent to be flexible, use good time management practices, and effectively identify priorities to complete assignments timely.

This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule and requires employees to work two days, each week, onsite at our headquarters office in Rancho Cordova, CA; however, changes to the hybrid/telework program are at the department's and/or Governor’s discretion. DCSS does utilize a shared workspace or “hoteling” when working in the office. Additionally, effective July 1st, 2025, the hybrid schedule will change to 4 days a week onsite at our headquarters office in Rancho Cordova, California.

All employees may be required to report in person to the Rancho Cordova headquarters and/or offsite events or locations, as determined by management.

  • Describe your experience as it relates to writing and copy-editing various communication materials such as press releases, scripts, reports, articles, fact sheets, and other publications, including experience with digital platforms. Provide details of your role and responsibilities. Include all experience that demonstrates your ability to succeed in this position.
  • Describe your experience establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with co-workers, management, and staff.
