Under the general direction of the Staff Services Manager (SSM) III, the Research Data Specialist (RDS) II independently performs the psychometric, analytical, and technical activities necessary for the development and validation of DCA's most sensitive and complex occupational licensing examination programs.

Working Conditions

  • This position is a hybrid telework position. Duties will be split between in-office, and an approved alternate work location.

Department Information

The Department of Consumer Affairs (DCA) protects and serves California consumers while ensuring a competent and fair marketplace. DCA educates consumers and protects professionals from unfair competition by unlicensed practitioners.

DCA is a unique and dynamic department consisting of 36 different boards, bureaus, a commission, and a program that license and regulate more than 3.4 million licensees in more than 280 license types including certificates, registrations, and permits. The Office of Professional Examination Services (OPES) protects the interests of consumers by supporting DCA and its regulatory entities in their commitment to establish and maintain licensure examination programs that are fair, valid, and legally defensible.

Special Requirements

Conflict of Interest: This position is subject to Title 16, section 3830 of the California Code of Regulations, the Department of Consumer Affairs Conflict of Interest Regulations. The incumbent is required to submit a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) within 30 days of assuming office, annually by April 1st, and within 30 days of leaving office.

We are looking for someone with a professional attitude and client service focus, and the ability to adapt to changing priorities. The candidate will work in an environment where there is much complexity in the structure of the licensing professions. The candidate will flexible in managing projects collaboratively with ten OPES testing specialists and the OPES Chief. The candidate will be required to become knowledgeable about OPES operations, including procedures for examination administration, examination security, and professional standards and guidelines related to examination development. This position requires confidentiality and discretion due to the confidential nature of the examination materials.
