The Health Services Specialist (Safety) (HSS), who is a Registered Nurse, is responsible for the ongoing monitoring, assessing and making recommendations for the maintenance of quality nursing services with primary emphasis on the medical and physical care needs of forensic and non-forensic clients in a program on an assigned shift; ensures educatin and training in nursing care is provided to unit personnel and forensic and non frensic clients; and performs other related duties. Must maintain a valid State of California Driver's License and be cleared to drive a state vehicle at PDC. Must maintain BLS, ACLS, and Physical Assessment certificate.

Working Conditions
Physical Demands: Must possess and maintain sufficient strength, agility, endurance and sensory ability to perform the duties contained in the duty statement.
Typical Working Conditions: Ongoing interaction with clients and staff. Potential exposure to communicable diseases, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical nursing environment. Spend more than 50% of time performing tasks to ensure the safety of the public, staff, and clients which may include escorting forensic clients in the facility; assisting with accounting for materials that may be used as weapons; inspecting facilities to identify security breaches that could lead to the escape of a forensic client; and observing and intervening in forensic client behavior that may injure people, damage property or signal impending escape attempts. All individuals may have their work week or daily work schedule altered to meet the needs of the department and/or facility.
Level of Care Employees will be required to perform the following Essential Functions: Must be able to lift 50 pounds without assistance; Must be able to participate in client containment, intervention or restraint; Must have the ability to work extended hours and various shifts; Must float to all work areas within the facility if called upon to do so.

The California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is the agency through which the State of California provides services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities.
These disabilities include intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism and related conditions. Services are provided through state-operated developmental centers and community facilities, and contracts with 21 nonprofit regional centers. The regional centers serve as a local resource to help find and access the services and supports available to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
