Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Energy’s, Coal Mine Safety program, is seeking a Compliance and Technical Specialist to ensure compliance with state coal mining laws. This position will visit coal mines to confirm compliance with State coal mining laws and investigate accidents and complaints. In addition, this position will assist in accident prevention, provide training, as needed, and review and evaluate coal mine plans.
Successful candidates will have a Virginia First Class Mine Foreman certification, successfully completed the Virginia Mine Inspector examination, and be able to work in adverse conditions.

Minimum Qualifications
- Mining experience in various duties with knowledge of mining operations, mining laws, rules and regulations and mining plans
- Experience using computers for preparing written documents, entering reports, and retrieving data
- Possession of communication skills, both orally and in writing
- Sound decision making skills without close supervision
- Experience interacting with customers and co-workers
- Ability to work in adverse conditions
- Must hold a Virginia First Class Mine Foreman certification, successfully completed the Virginia Mine Inspector examination, and work in adverse conditions A valid driver’s license with a good driving record
