This is the supervisory level in the series. Under general direction in the Office of State Audits and Evaluations (OSAE), incumbents concurrently supervise multiple assignments and evaluation teams and coordinate all aspects of each assignment. Incumbents provide management advice and technical guidance to staff, top-level administrators, and other interested parties.

Special Requirements

Finance operates under a hybrid telework model, which requires employees to work in the office (report to headquarters) for a minimum of two days during the workweek. The hybrid policy is subject to change, and additional in-office days may be required at management's discretion.
As of July 1, 2025, Finance employees will be required to work in the office a minimum of 4 days a week. The hybrid policy is subject to change, and additional in-office days may be required at management's discretion.

Knowledge of:
  • Auditing principles, procedures, and standards including general standards and criteria issued by the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, the Government Accountability Office, the Institute of Internal Auditors, and other authoritative entities.
  • Accounting principles and procedures.
  • Operations, fiscal structures, and functions of federal, state, and local government, and nonprofit entities.
  • California government codes, Uniform Codes Manual, State Administrative Manual, State Contracting Manual, state accounting and reporting systems, budget process, and other state policies and regulations.
  • Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint, and TeamMate audit management software.
  • Principles and practices of employee supervision, development, and training.
  • Principles and practices of organizational and project management and coordination of work assignments.
  • Leadership, teambuilding, and coaching techniques to improve the work environment and to increase productivity, as needed.

Travel and work away from the headquarters office on overnight or multiple-day trips on a continuous basis; work extended hours during peak times; be available and willing to work the hours OSAE determines are necessary to meet its operational needs; lift and carry luggage, files and documentation, and portable laptop computer equipment.

EXAMINATION INFORMANTION

To establish eligibility for the Supervisor-Financial and Performance Evaluator (Sup, FPE) classification, you must take and pass the online Senior Management Auditor exam and meet the minimum qualifications for both the Sup, FPE and Senior Management Auditor classifications to be eligible for appointment.
