Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Forestry (DOF) is seeking an experienced emergency response professional to oversee emergency operations and dispatch during wildfires and other emergency situations. Incumbent directs the deployment of personnel and resources on wildland fires and other emergencies; manages the readiness and deployment of state resources on compact and out-of-state assignments; provides operational oversight of the Firesponse dispatching application; manages the Virginia Incident Operations Center during wildfire and other emergency situations; serves as an Incident Commander on the Virginia Interagency Overhead Team; maintains and dispatches the emergency fire cache; reviews significant fire incidents; maintains the state readiness and operations plan; provides oversight of the Incident Qualification System (IQS) program statewide; and coordinates the operational aspects of the agencies fire-related training.
Minimum Qualifications
Significant experience in the strategy and tactics of DOF wildland firefighting; extensive experience managing emergency incidents; experience teaching and presenting wildland firefighting courses; extensive knowledge of and experience with the use and implementation of the Incident Command System (ICS); National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Task Force (trainee) or above qualified; demonstrated excellent public speaking and presentation skills; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse group of individuals; excellent and effective oral, written, and inter-personal communication skills; ability to negotiate different types of forested terrain on foot; valid Commercial Driver's license; and proficiency using a PC and Microsoft Office software required. Must be willing and able to work additional hours, including nights and weekends, during wildland fires and other emergency situations; and be on-call as necessary throughout the year to support agency emergency response needs. Must pass moderate physical fitness test, per Federal guidelines. The test consists of walking 2 miles in 30 minutes carrying a 25-pound pack.
