The Division of Division of Real Estate Services (DRES) in the Virginia Department of General Services (DGS) seeks to hire an accomplished real estate professional with managerial and supervisory experience to serve as Deputy Director. DRES is responsible for managing the Commonwealth’s real estate portfolio and supporting the real estate needs of client agencies, including the purchase or lease property and management of state consolidated office space at the seat of government and throughout the Commonwealth for joint use by state agencies, departments, and institutions. The Division is also responsible for the establishment of standards and assignment of office space to agencies, departments, and institutions at the seat of government and in buildings owned or leased by the Department of the General Services.
As Deputy Director, the successful candidate will assist the DRES Director with providing executive leadership and management to a diverse staff with statewide responsibilities.
Job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing supervision to a team of Real Estate Transaction Managers, Legal Staff, and Business Administration within DRES.
- Providing effective leadership and direction in developing and achieving strategic goals for the acquisition, use, and disposal of real property.
- Managing more complex and visible real estate transactions.
- Assisting the DRES Director with ensuring that client agencies receive timely real estate services and are provided the facilities required to satisfy agency missions at the most economical cost.

This position is eligible for a hybrid telework schedule (telework 2 days/week) upon completion of an approved telework agreement.
Minimum Qualifications
- Strong supervisory skills and extensive experience managing staff.
- Knowledge of the principles of public administration, business operations and practices, program formulation, project management, team management, implementation methods, and evaluation of activities.
- Extensive knowledge and experience of real property management, tenant management, strategic planning, concepts related to facility management and development, state laws and policies governing real estate transactions and capital projects.
- Ability to negotiate and conduct all types of commercial real estate transactions, including acquisition and conveyance of real property.
- Knowledge of legislative and budget processes.
- Exemplary oral and written communication and negotiation skills.
- Executive level skills in analysis and decision-making, and in design, development and delivery of professional presentations.
- Strong negotiating skills and ability to effectively present ideas and concepts to co-workers, agencies, managers and vendors.
- Knowledge and experience of laws, policies and guidelines governing conduct of real estate transactions by departments, agencies, and institutions of the Commonwealth of Virginia.
- Ability to act decisively and accurately in advising and assisting the Commonwealth's departments, agencies and institutions and private contractors while employing interpersonal skills to enhance good working relationships.
