We are seeking a talented individual to serve as a Family Coach at our Ashland office. Family Coaches work closely with Oregon families to provide person-centered, strength-based practices that support the transition to a state of independence through collaboration and partnership within the agency and community. This work is primarily conducted in the office and in the local community.

Self-Sufficiency Programs Mission:
To provide a safety net, family stability and a connection to careers that guide Oregonians out of poverty. The Self Sufficiency offices help with food benefits (SNAP), cash for families (TANF), childcare assistance (ERDC), medical programs, refugee services, and domestic violence services.
Summary of duties:
As a Family Coach, you will conduct interviews to determine family needs and eligibility. You will explore alternate resources and link clients to community services. You will complete program applications for program benefits and, if eligible, issue appropriate support payments. You will engage clients in the family evaluation of strengths. You will jointly develop a case plan and identify the family's steps towards self-sufficiency. You will monitor progress and conditions and make necessary modifications to the case plan. Lastly, you will initiate and participate in case staffing, employment readiness, life skills training, and support job search, as needed.
Minimum qualifications / What you need to qualify:
  • Three years of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing); OR
  • An Associate's degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science or a closely related field and two years of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing); OR
  • A Bachelor's degree in any field and one year of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing); OR
  • A Bachelor's degree in a Behavioral Science, Social Science, or a closely related field.

  • Family advocate: Experience collaborating, supporting, and empowering individuals and families to have a voice when identifying family needs, goals, and solutions.
  • Honoring diversity: Demonstrated ability to lead and engage with thoughtfulness and sensitivity.
  • Decision making: Experience making sound decisions based upon a mixture of analysis, knowledge, experience and judgement while under pressure of sensitive timelines.
  • Professionalism: Experience handling confidential or sensitive situations and information with unwavering professionalism, holding self and others to high standards of honesty and integrity.
  • Direct services: Experience providing services for community members experiencing homelessness, domestic violence and/or migration hardships who have historically been marginalized, underserved, in crisis, or disadvantaged.
  • Trauma informed approach: Experience recognizing symptoms and behaviors that originate from adapting to traumatic responses. Commitment to minimizing re-traumatization or replicating prior trauma dynamics.

Working Conditions
  • Your work will be conducted in the Offices, Community and District.
  • Your work schedule will be 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. PST, Monday – Friday. Occasionally you will need to adjust your schedule based on service need.
  • You may interact with a wide range of people including some who have experienced trauma and may exhibit challenges in controlling their emotions.
  • Fast-paced position that includes a high volume of individual, family, and community partner contact.
  • Frequent travel is required to support office workloads and occasional meetings with clients and contracted partners. Rarely, you may have required overnight travel to attend statewide meetings and trainings.
  • The use of outside resources such as Artificial Intelligence software during applicant skill assessments, examinations, and/or interviews is prohibited unless otherwise stated by the hiring agency. Unauthorized use of outside resources during the hiring process will result in disqualification.”
