Under the direction of the Deputy Labor Commissioner IV (Regional Manager), the Deputy Labor Commissioner III (Senior Deputy) is responsible for supervising, planning, organizing, and reviewing the work of team members as well as offering ongoing training and education. In addition, the Senior Deputy collaborates with other programs and stakeholders to promote education and access for the public and to bring forth labor law enforcement awareness.

We enforce the law by setting a standard of fair and expeditious resolution of claims to achieve long-term compliance from the employers of the State of California. By providing education and meaningful enforcement of wage and hour laws, we combat wage theft and ensure that wages earned are put into the pockets of the workers.

Department Information

The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) was established in 1927. Its mission is to improve working conditions for California's wage earners and to advance opportunities for profitable employment in California. DIR administers and enforces laws governing wages, workplace safety and health, apprenticeship training programs, and medical care and other benefits for injured workers.

Deputy Labor Commissioners are covered by the Unit 2 Memorandum of Understanding and are represented in bargaining by the California Attorneys, Administrative Law Judges and Hearing Officers in State Employment (CASE).
