Under the supervision of the Staff Services Manager I, the Staff Services Analyst, as the first entry level position, performs tasks with established policies and procedures to support various research programs operations within the Office of the Director - Research unit (ODR). Essential tasks include supporting the General Research & Administration's operations by maintaining existing budgetary tracking and control systems, updating Alternative Workweek and Public Correspondence databases, assisting with the administration of department and division program policies, and coordinating personnel matters as the research unit's HR liaison and ARO. Collaborates with administrative analysts to provide additional research on proposed budget, planning, and personnel matters. Responds to general research or administrative inquiries by phone or email, and identifies appropriate course of action for non-routine inquiries.

The incumbent works in a cubicle environment in an office setting with artificial light and temperature control. The position is located in the San Francisco office in a high rise building. Typical machines, tools, or equipment required to operate include but are not limited to: PCs with Windows and database applications, copy/fax machines, VOIP telephone system, and shredders. Incumbent may also telework part-time from home using state computers and equipment.

The Department of Industrial Relations (DIR) was established in 1927. Its mission is to improve working conditions for California's wage earners and to advance opportunities for profitable employment in California. DIR administers and enforces laws governing wages, workplace safety and health, apprenticeship training programs, and medical care and other benefits for injured workers.
