Under close supervision and in a learner capacity, the incumbent will assist in performing a variety of tasks to support the Computer Operations Unit. The incumbent will maintain phone support with law enforcement entities, internal and external clients, and provide technical support services such as resetting network and Law Enforcement Agency Web passwords, session time-outs for legal staff, re-connection of California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System lines that indicate down, and troubleshooting network equipment and data center system/application problems. The incumbent will also perform input/output functions within the printer room; this may include printing to Sharp high speed printers, Xerox, Printronix line printers, and continuous form bursters.

Department Information

This position is located in the California Justice Information Services Division, Technology Support Bureau, Production and Network Services Branch, Implementation and Production Services Section, Computer Operations Unit.

Please note that this classification contains multiple salary ranges. New-to-State employees will be given the minimum salary of Range A, unless you meet Alternate Range Criteria 060. For current state employees and/or those with reinstatement rights, your salary will be determined in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

ALTERNATE RANGE CRITERIA 60

Range A. Enrollment as a student in a college or university with lower division undergraduate standing. (Lower division typically refers to freshmen or sophomores who have completed no more than 60 semester units acceptable toward graduation.)

Range B. Enrollment as a student in a college or university with upper division undergraduate standing. (Upper division typically refers to juniors or seniors who have completed not less than 60 nor more than 120 semester units acceptable toward graduation.)

Range C. Enrollment as a student in a college or university with upper division undergraduate standing (upper division typically refers to juniors or seniors who have completed not less than 60 nor more than 120 semester units acceptable toward graduation) and a minimum of 500 hours' work experience in a student program in the California state service. (The State College and University school systems are typically excluded from the California state service.)

Range D. Evidence of successful completion of one year of upper division work in accounting, business administration, economics, or related fields including either: (1) at least 12 semester hours of courses related to fiscal management such as elementary and advanced accounting, auditing, cost accounting, or business law; or (2) at least 12 semester hours of courses related to management information systems or computer science. or

Evidence of successful completion or more than 120 semester units acceptable toward graduation and proof of application for enrollment in supplemental college course work. or

A minimum of 1,000 hours of experience in a student program in the California state service. (The State College and University school systems are typically excluded from the California state service.)

Employees shall receive a rate under the provisions of DPA Rule 599.674 upon submission of proof that the requirements for the particular criteria have been met, except upon movement from ranges A and B to range D shall be under the provisions of Rule 599.676.

Special Requirements

  • A fingerprint check is required.

  • Clearly indicate JC-473284 in the “Examination(s) or Job Title(s) For Which You Are Applying” section located on the first page of your State Application.
  • You must be currently enrolled in at least six (6) semester units or the equivalent of college courses, with a GPA of 2.0 or higher.

This is a non-testing classification, therefore anyone meeting the minimum qualifications listed on the classification specification may apply for this position.
