LIFEGUARD II (SEASONAL) – SONOMA MENDOCINO COAST DISTRICT / SONOMA COAST STATE PARK


“Priority consideration will be given to any person receiving State public assistance under the CalWORKs program. Applicants who receive State public assistance need to identify their status as a CalWORKs recipient in the comments area on the application. Applicants must submit a verification of their CalWORKs eligibility status, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing TANF eligibility or a copy of your last aid check stub. Under the supervision of the State Park Peace Officer Supervisor I (Lifeguard) will work as a lead position for other seasonal lifeguard employees reporting to Sonoma Coast State Park at the park Headquarters at 3095 Highway 1, Bodega Bay, CA 94923.

The Lifeguard II will work as part of a self-directed team with other lifeguards and state personnel to provide aquatic safety for the public. The Lifeguard II must be ale to get along with others and work within a self-directed team of highly motivated professionals by providing leadership, teamwork, and professionalism.

This position may work up to 1500 hours within 12 consecutive months. Normal working hours are a 10 hour shift starting between 8am and 12pm. This position is designated as not telework eligible.

The selected candidate is required to submit to a background investigation process utilizing Live Scan fingerprinting prior to appointment.

This position requires a valid Class C driver’s license. You must answer the questions addressing your driver’s license on your application. Ensure you provide your driver’s license number, class, expiration date, and any endorsements and/or restrictions on your application.

Per California Code of Regulations (CCR) 599.961, this is a sensitive position, and therefore subject to drug and alcohol testing. It should be noted that testing is not mandatory, but is allowed to be conducted only if and when there is a determination of reasonable suspicion as defined in CCR 599.962.

Working Conditions

Performs aquatic and coastal patrols in a rugged coastal environment featuring uneven terrain, high cliffs, and potentially hazardous surf, potentially in inclement weather. Willingness to work shifts including weekends, holidays, and special events on a regular basis. 10 hour shifts starting anytime between 8AM and Noon.

1. Minimum of three seasons and currently employed as a Seasonal Lifeguard I or II
2. Current Emergency Medical Responder training and/or EMT.
3. Willingness to work weekends and Holidays (1,000 hours minimum / 1,500 hours maximum per season)
