PARK MAINTENANCE WORKER II/NORTH COAST REDWOODS/REDWOOD COAST/PRAIRIE CREEK REDWOODS STATE PARK

This classification is subject to the Post and Bid process. Applications from a certification list, transfer change in class, reinstatement, re-employment, and training and development assignment candidates will be accepted for this position but consistent with the MOU/Bargaining Agreement BU12/13 contract cannot be acted upon unless the Post & Bid process does not result in a hire.

Under the direction of the Park Maintenance Supervisor, the Park Maintenance Worker II performs miscellaneous semiskilled and skilled work involved in the structural, facilities and systems maintenance function of the California State Parks. The essential job functions of this position include facilities maintenance, equipment operations /maintenance, lead person and supervise crews, resource protection, housekeeping and administrative within the North Coast Redwoods District.
The reporting location is the Roads, Trails, and Resources office at Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park. This position will maintain historic and non-historic facilities throughout the area, which include, but are not limited to: buildings, structures, grounds, roads, parking lots, campgrounds, day use areas, trails and systems. This position may be required to respond on a notice to emergencies requiring outside agency crew coordination and supervision. Spike camping could be required.


The incumbent’s work schedule will be 07:00AM to 05:30PM from Monday to Thursday.

Working Conditions

  • Work Environment: includes outdoor environment, inclement weather, smoky conditions related to prescribed fire, characterized cold and heat, frequent winds, and insects:
  • Work in hazardous conditions (i.e. raw sewage, chemicals, garbage, hypodermic needles, rodents, broken glass, driving on loose gravel and off road, operate vehicles off road and equipment, etc.)
  • Work environment may expose incumbent to noise, dust, fumes, hot and cold temperatures, and unpleasant odors
  • Work at elevated heights, on or near machinery and heavy equipment or traffic
  • Ability to perform strenuous manual labor (i.e. digging trenching, boring, lifting, carrying, loading etc.)
  • Requires repetitive movements of heavy objects
  • Ability to walk across uneven terrain, loose gravel in both uphill and downhill conditions to perform the duties of the job
  • Stand for long periods of time, (in excess of 2 hours) to perform the duties associated with the job.

California State Parks is seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join our team as a Park Maintenance Worker II in the North Coast Redwoods District. Under the direction of the Park Maintenance Supervisor, the Park Maintenance Worker II will perform a variety of semiskilled and skilled maintenance tasks essential for the upkeep of park facilities, structures, roads, and grounds.
