What are the responsibilities and job description for the PROGRAM SPECIALIST position at Department of Public Works?
This position is located in the District Department of Public Works, Fleet Management Administration, in the Office of the Administrator. The Department of Public Works (DPW) provides municipal services in two distinct program areas: environmental services/solid waste management and parking enforcement. Both contribute to making District streets and public spaces clean, safe, attractive and
accessible. Behind the scenes, DPW's Fleet Management Administration supports municipal operations by procuring, fueling and maintaining thousands of District government vehicles, from sedans to heavy equipment. Fleet Management also is responsible for purchasing environmentally friendly, alternative-fuel vehicles (AFV) for the city.
Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinates the work for all components of the Administration utilizing in-depth knowledge of the Administration's programs and missions to ensure complete, concise and accurate presentations of such things as sensitive correspondence congressional and mayoral reports; consolidated annual budget requests with justifications and financial reports which fulfill program requirements. This entails
establishing internal deadlines are adhered to, and the dissemination of information regarding the required format of presentation.
The incumbent confers regularly with the Administrator to keep them apprised of new or changing policies, positions, requirements and special priority matters.
Qualifications and Education
Specialized Experience is experience that equips the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

Position Designation: This position has been designated as security sensitive therefore the incumbent of this position will be subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC Personnel Regulations, Suitability and as such, incumbents of this position shall be subject to criminal background checks, background investigations, and mandatory drug and alcohol testing, as applicable.
Essential Designation: The position is designated as an “essential” government employee as defined under the D.C. personnel regulations. The incumbent of the position may be required to work during a declared emergency when non-essential and non-emergency employees are dismissed.
Residency Requirement: If the position you are applying for is in the Career, Management Supervisory, or Educational Service at an annual salary of one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) or more, you must establish residency in the District of Columbia within one hundred eighty (180) days of the effective date of the appointment and continue to maintain residency within the District of Columbia throughout the duration of the appointment.
