Department of Revenue is recruiting for multiple Tax Auditor 2 positions. We are looking for talented, detail-oriented individuals to join our Business Division in the Oregon Special Business Programs Unit. This position is headquartered in our Salem office; however, the successful candidate may be eligible for in state hybrid work. Hybrid work consists of performing duties onsite in a standard office environment and working remotely.
The goal of this recruitment is to fill the position at the Tax Auditor 2 (TA2) level. However, we encourage candidates who meet the minimum qualifications for the Tax Auditor 1 (TA1) to apply, as the department may consider underfilling the position.
In order to be considered for Department of Revenue recruitments, you must reside within the state of Oregon. Current Revenue employees who live outside of Oregon may apply and will be considered.
What You Will Be Doing
Below is a sampling of job duties. It is not meant to encompass all duties.
- Examining commercial activity or income, and expense items, or deductions, testing records such as multi-entity business accounting statements, entry journals, accountant worksheets, and financial documents used in the preparation of a tax return. Verifies correctness of these business records by testing accounting records against source documents such as invoices, bank statements, and canceled checks.
- Examining and verifying the apportionment formula, apportionable and non-apportionable activity, unitary attributes of affiliated businesses, etc. when appropriate depending on the program being audited. Makes determination as to accuracy of taxpayer’s filing method, accounting, and non-accounting documents.
- Preparing concise and understandable work papers and reports of varied and complex information obtained using a personal computer (word processing / spread sheet / data base software).
- Investigate and develop leads and lists of large businesses that are doing business in Oregon. Assist ADP AS2s in developing techniques for screening leads and lists that identify entities not filing OSBP returns.

This Is What You Need To Qualify Tax Auditor 2 – ($5,575.00 - $8,550.00)
Six years of experience in tax auditing, audit defense, or professional accounting (one of the six years of experience may be in tax compliance, tax preparation, providing law training, or developing tax forms or instructions); AND
Six years of experience in tax auditing, audit defense, or professional accounting (one of the six years of experience may be in tax compliance, tax preparation, providing law training, or developing tax forms or instructions); AND
32 credit hours in accounting or other equivalent certification, training, or coursework.
A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field will substitute for up to three years of experience.
This Is What You Need To Qualify Tax Auditor 1 – ($4,833.00 - $7,407.00)
Four years of work experience in tax compliance, tax preparation, tax auditing, audit defense, professional accounting, providing law training, or developing tax forms or instructions; OR
An equivalent combination of relevant education, training, and experience.
A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field will substitute for up to three years of experience.
The ideal candidate will possess the following desired skills and attributes:
- Be self-motivated and self-disciplined and keep track of deadlines.
- Proven ability to work independently displaying a high degree of integrity.
- Good time management skills and proven ability to follow through and bring audits or projects to a timely, satisfactory completion.
- Proven ability to exhibit sound judgment and decision making when there are variables (i.e. interpreting laws/regulations).
- Proven communication skills; including presenting technical information to large groups, writing reports, policy and procedures, and face-to-face interactions with business partners.

- The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect the additional 6.95%.
