Department of Revenue is recruiting for a Tax Auditor 2 – Policy Analyst position. We are looking for talented, detail-oriented individuals to join our Business Division in the Corporation/Estate Section. This position is headquartered in our Salem office; however, the successful candidate may be eligible for in state hybrid work. Hybrid work consists of performing duties onsite in a standard office environment and working remotely.
In order to be considered for Department of Revenue recruitments, you must reside within the state of Oregon. Current Revenue employees who live outside of Oregon may apply and will be considered.
What You Will Be Doing

Legislative and Policy Analysis
- Evaluates court decisions, Oregon Revised Statutes, and federal tax law to recommend interpretation and determine impact to agency programs.
- Develops policy options related to often ambiguous material.
- Prepares and analyzes legislative proposals.
- Interprets and explains often-complicated law, regulations, and policy to agency staff, other Oregon agencies and other states’ revenue departments.
Administrative Services
- Evaluates forms, publications, and communication (electronic or other) to assure they comply with program intent and regulations.
- Decides content of forms and publications to reflect policy and law changes.
Appeals
- Acts as a conference officer for the first level of appeal to the agency on tax related disputes. Holds the conference, analyzes information received before, during, and after the conference, and renders a written decision based on agency position.

This Is What You Need To Qualify
Six years of experience in tax auditing, audit defense, or professional accounting (one of the six years of experience may be in tax compliance, tax preparation, providing law training, or developing tax forms or instructions); AND
Six years of experience in tax auditing, audit defense, or professional accounting (one of the six years of experience may be in tax compliance, tax preparation, providing law training, or developing tax forms or instructions); AND
32 credit hours in accounting or other equivalent certification, training, or coursework.
A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field will substitute for up to three years of experience.
The ideal candidate will possess the following desired skills and attributes:
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively both within a team and in cross-functional teams or projects.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, displaying a high degree of integrity both in and out of a team environment.
- Demonstrated ability to speak and write professionally in a well-organized, straightforward and concise manner to agency staff, taxpayers and tax professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to provide outstanding customer service including ability to interact effectively with customers in situations where parties are in disagreement.
- Ability to deliver quality work product timely, consistently meeting deadlines while also demonstrating sound judgment and decision making.
- Knowledge of state and federal tax law and regulations; including estate tax law.

- The salary listed is the non-PERS qualifying salary range. If the successful candidate is PERS qualifying, the salary range will reflect the additional 6.95%.
