The Information Systems Division works in collaboration with programs and county agencies, to provide solutions to systems that assist families who needs access to the essentials such as, but not limited to, medical services, care providers, groceries, and transportation.

The California Department of Social Services’ (CDSS) Information Systems Division (ISD) has an amazing opportunity for an Information Technology Specialist I to join a dynamic team and make a difference in many young Californians’ lives. Under the general direction of the Business Analysis Section Chief, IT Supervisor II, the Information Technology Specialist I (ITS I) would provide advanced technical support and consultation to resolve complex IT related problems. The ITS I would act as ISD’s representative and provide initial triage support of Information Technology Service Request (ITSR) for various program areas within CDSS and provide ongoing customer support to meet programs IT needs.

The following includes the key duties and/or responsibilities of the Information Technology Service Request (ITSR) Representative position:

Act as a liaison to bridge/facilitate communication and understanding between the program team and ISD. Provides the program team with focused information on IT topics and activities. Gain understanding of the overarching business model as well as intricacies and nuances of assigned program areas. Communicate IT issues to ISD management/staff for appropriate mitigation/resolution. Assist program teams in prioritizing solution requests for management approval within the ISD’s portfolio. The ITS I will perform duties in the Business Technology Management and System Engineering domains.

Working Conditions

This work location is very convenient! The CDSS is located two blocks from the light rail and public transportation: within walking distance to the State Capitol, parks, restaurants, farmer’s markets and the Golden 1 Arena. Our building has easy access to I-5, Highway 50, and Highway 80.

This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under California Government Code Section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Specific telework arrangements may be discussed in more detail with the respective hiring manager. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Social Services policies. Please note, if this position is being advertised in multiple locations, the headquarter location will be designated based on the selected candidate's primary residence location, and/or the closest CDSS location.

  • Manage initial triage activities for IT system enhancement requests, validate concept, conduct assessment and partner with Portfolio Management team and business partners on development of documentation.
  • Act as a liaison to bridge/facilitate communication and understanding between the program teams and IT and provide focused information on IT topics and activities.
  • Assist in prioritizing solution requests for approval/management within the ISD’s portfolio.
  • Communicate IT issues to ISD management/staff for appropriate mitigation/resolution.
