What are the responsibilities and job description for the MUSLIM CHAPLAIN (INTERMITTENT) position at Department of State Hospitals?
- Consult with the hospital Clinical, Administrative, and RMS staff regarding religious dietary requests, review and approval of vendors, and education
- Conduct quality Islamic religious ceremonies, services, and groups
- Provide spiritual counseling, visitation, and teaching to patients unable to attend activities off the unit as scheduled
- Work cooperatively with the other Chaplains to provide spiritual services and groups
- Perform administrative and institutional duties, following policies and procedures necessary to safely provide spiritual services.
- Direct the provision of regularly scheduled Muslim services and ceremonies.
- Participate in scheduled RMS meetings, Interfaith meetings, and training.
- Effectively communicate with supervisor, Interfaith Team and Treatment Teams.
- Support the hospital's Relationship Security Program
In order to be considered for this job vacancy, you must satisfy one of the following requirements:
1. BE LIST ELIGIBLE: Successfully complete the competitive State civil service exam pertaining to this classification NO EXAM CURRENTLY AVAILABLE, OR
2. BE TRANSFER ELIGIBLE: Have current employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable (employees who wish to be considered based on transfer eligibility must meet the minimum qualifications of the classification per DPA Rule 250), OR
3. BE REINSTATEMENT ELIGIBLE: Have obtained previous permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable.
- Minimum qualifications will be verified prior to being scheduled for an interview. Please provide proof of minimum qualifications with your application submission, which may include a copy of your unofficial college transcripts.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Currently in good standing with the American Muslim Community, verified and approved by the local resident Imam where the applicant attends as a member. All candidates must attach to their application a letter of certification of good standing issued by the local resident Imam AND Education: Completion of at least two years of Islamic Religious studies, including Islamic History, the Holy Quaran, Principles of Faith and Articles of Faith in any masjid or college AND Experience: Completion of the equivalent of one year of full-time supervised clinical or field training in the community. Such training to include Islamic religious counseling and guidance, religious education, and the care and welfare of the family as it relates to religious education AND completion of no less than two years' experience as an Imam or Instructress in the Islamic religion in a public or private institution or masjid.
- If it is determined that an applicant does not meet the minimum qualifications, the applicant’s name may be removed from the eligibility list.

Working Conditions
Our facility is a 24 hour, 7 day a week facility. Position is intermittent, the maximum hours authorized is 1500 a year, you may work less hours during the year.
This position requires you to work within the Secured Treatment Area (STA).
